Fuminori Moriyasu, M.D.
President, The 6th Asian Conference on Ultrasound Contrast Imaging (ACUCI 2014)
Chairman & Professor, The 4th Department of Internal Medicine,
Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Tokyo Medical University

The 87th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine, will co-host academic meetings, international conferences, and research meetings related to ultrasound as part of Ultrasonic Week 2014.

The Asian Conference on Ultrasound Contrast Imaging (ACUCI) will also participate in this Ultrasonic Week.

The predecessor of ACUCI was the "International Symposium on Ultrasound Contrast Imaging." It was held for the first time in Kyoto in 1999, and then held alternately in Tokyo and Osaka until the tenth time.

When the 11th International Symposium on Ultrasound Contrast Imaging was held in Kunming, China, the 1st ACUCI was held along with it. In 2010 it was held in the same way in Tokyo, and then when it was held in 2011 in Kunming, China the International Symposium on Ultrasound Contrast Imaging was absorbed into ACUCI, and the 3rd ACUCI was held independently as ACUCI 2011.

After that, the 4th ACUCI was held along with an academic meeting of the Korean Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (KSUM) in South Korea in 2012, and the 5th ACUCI was held along with an academic meeting of the Taiwan Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (TSUM) in Taipei, Taiwan in 2013.

Following this background, the 6th ACUCI came to be held along with the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine (JSUM) as Ultrasonic Week. I am extremely pleased that we are able to hold this meeting, which has a 14-year history as an academic meeting for people researching ultrasound contrast in Japan and other Asian countries, and I also feel the responsibility for it. In particular, the fact that ultrasound contrast can provide diagnostic information that is the same or even surpasses that of contrast CT or contrast MRI is something that has a major impact for the countries of Asia, where there is a lot of liver disease. It is expected that from now on Japan, China, South Korea, and Taiwan, which can use ultrasound agents, will play a major role in having them become widely used in other Asian countries.

I will be pleased if you will kindly understand this background, and contribute to the development of ultrasound contrast in Asia, and thereby the development of medical care and medical studies in Asia.
